Weather permitting, this is one of the birds that I plan to fly this weekend. I just bought the paint yesterday, but didn't realize at the time how much the rocket was going to look like some kind of Miami Dolphins bird. The motormount was one I had laying around from Thrustline. It's a 2x18mm, 24mm cluster. I'm thinking about an E9-4 first flight and maybe an E9-4, 2xC6-5 if that works out okay.

That sounds like an awful lot of power for a little rocket. Let us know how it works out.

I would, but I left it on the kitchen table and didn't realize it until I was 40 miles away from homw. :o I did get to fly the MadCow Hawk, which made the day worthwhile. Aside from that, I just took pictures. It was pretty windy.

This combo sounds short to me. I'm thinking E9-6 and C6-7's instead. My rationale is that one type pops at apogee and the other afterward. IE, top and late, but not early.

The E9-4 will have a duration of 3.09+3.26=6.35 seconds burn+delay (NAR data). The C6-5's will be 1.86+4.29=6.15. So your total durations match well, but this is F impulse (27.87+2x8.82=45.51Ns), in a ~Fat Boy. I flew my stretched Fat Boy on an F23-7. That was more impulse, but only by 7Ns.

Using C6-7's and an E9-6, you get 1.86+6.24=8.10 and 3.09+5.97=9.06 seconds of duration, with the C6-7's deploying the chute and the E9-6 as backup.

In test engineering, they have an old saying: One test is worth a thousand expert opinions :) I suppose a sim would be the next best thing :)

BTW, if you're worried about too much ejection charge, I've plugged C6-0's using a 1/2" long piece of 1/2" dowel and epoxy.

Thanks for the info, Doug. I have two specially plugged spent 18mm casings that I plan to friction fit for at least the first flight. I don't know that I'll try the cluster until after I've had a successful E9 flight. Then again, if I keep leaving it in the kitchen on flight days, I really won't have to worry. :rolleyes:

Not yet. Both club launches were cancelled this weekend, and I'm down with bronchitis anyway. I'm trying to figure out how to get the colors right for the decals, but I haven't had much in the way of energy lately.
