BT-55 with a PNC-55EX

The PNC-55EX is used with the 1925 Exocet (hence the EX) and 1955 Ranger.

I have one of those cones!

I came on a (stupid!) Estes Ranger I got at a garage sale.

Now I know what to do with it.

One of my favorites. I would like to get one of those nose cones for a clone but since I haven't found one yet, I built a Goony version; Nepgoon.

Funny, I was just looking at this one on JimZ's plan page last night!
First though was how similar it looked to an Exocet. I like it.
Will be following along.

I note that eRockets/Semroc has a balsa version in stock - BNC-55EX "Fat ogive". I have one of the stupid Estes Rangers that Gordon refers to, and I list this cone in my plastic cone collection. It was painted an ugly grey color (before I sanded most of the paint off), and I wondered what other kits used it.

Looking forward to the build thread! If the style appeals, I may have to add this rocket to my build list - it'll use up that plastic cone

Hmmm... interesting...

Dang that it wouldn't be a BT-60...

Wonder where I could get one of those cones... any currently available kit using them??

Later! OL JR :)

I haven't seen any new rockets that use that NC since the 1980s. I picked up a Ranger just for the NC back then.

Had some time to work on the Neptune and got her all ready for priming on my next day off. Built out of the bag and given couple coats of balsa sealer.

Nice. Those bottom fins look to be candidates for papering.

I was just wondering based on some of your previous builds, if you stop doing the priming of the balsa with several coats and then sanding it down technique?

Too much sanding and messy, but it does work. I went back to Balsa sealer because it is easy to use and works great.
I was able to shoot a coat of grey primer today followed buy classic Rust Stop Rustoleum Gloss white and Orange. I will allow this to dry then mask and paint the grey

I was able to finish my Neptune this afternoon and she is ready for flight. The paint is Rustoleum Rust Stop. The decals went on pretty smooth, but did require some trimming of the fin decals after they dried.

Very nice. What paint did you use for the NC?

Very nice work.
Annoying too. You spit out about 10 builds for every one I finish :(

The nose was painted with Rustoleum Rust Stop Orange. I have a lot of builds so I have to bust them out or they will never get built :D

My build pile is growing, at an alarming rate.

I had zero kits only a few months ago, now I have 38 LPR kits, 12 MPR kits and 7 clones on the workbench

I picked up one of these nose cones in an Ebay lot a while back and have everything I need but the length of the main body tube. Anyone know what length a BT55C is?
