Not Fair Mario!! I have always wanted to do a 1/12 LM, Must see more pics, details, etc. Hey, I have a 1/12 CSM that would match it, see pic below, but it doesnt fly of course, at least not yet!!!!!! :D

If you ever want to do a 1/12 CSM let me know, I kept all the templates molds, etc for the one I built for an exhibit...

That's beautiful! My LEM (OK, I'm old school) is not as detailed as that.

Thanks!! Any more pics, details about your LEM?

A quick overview...

The LEM is primarily built from 1/8" plywood that is coated with epoxy. There are a LOT of little polygons that need to be cut and shaped to make one of these things. It started out based on the old Gulf Oil paper model but I soon found that it didn't look nearly as good when it was enlarged so I did a bit of scaling from various photos. Towards the end of the build I found and purchased the plans for the LEM from Real Space and I've been correcting errors ever since. Once the descent stage is complete I'll move on the the ascent stage and finish it.

Mario,

Do you intend on launching this or is this for static display only? Keep on posting.

Sheri.

All I can say is "WOW". How long did it take you to build the CSM? The "chrome" work on the CM is beautiful. Did you do that with some kind of Mylar or foil? Did you build the display stand, too? I like the picture of the display case. From that vantage point you can imagine what the LM crew must have seen when they looked out of their window after undocking.

Anyway, thanks. Very, very nicely done.

The original plan was to build it to fly but that changed as the build got more involved. It certainly could be flown but I won't be the one who does it.

Sheri, how did you get the nice shiny gold on the command module?

I know, I know (frantically waving my hand), but I'll let Sheri answer. I think most of us would rather hear from her, anyway!
I know I would!!!

Thanks Guys, The Chrome was applied in strips, one at a time, took forever but I wanted it to look as realistic as possible. I used Chrome Pinstriping from my LHS.

Marios' Project is about 10 times more complex than mine. I think it is excellent looking and I know how difficult that thing-LEM can be to build .

Mario, Are you building this for yourself or someone else? I would love to see more pics as it turned out very well.

I want to see both that LEM and CSM actually fly.
That CSM looks like it would require at LEAST a decent mid-range "J" to fly decently.

Sheri, this one is just something that I'm building for me. It started out as a project that I was doing for LAUNCH magazine but it got put on hold when the economy went south. I will probably include it in my build book.

I think Mario's model would look a LOT better with Sheri holding it. I don't think I could say the opposite :chuckle:

Both of these are looking great. It makes me a little sad that they won't fly....but then if they were mine I might not have the guts. A photo op of both together would be pretty cool.

I would look better with Sheri holding me too - so what's your point? :)

For those of you who always wanted to build a better paper model of the LEM(than the GULF OIL Model) Here ya go!
I built one this past summer, too late for the 40th anniversary, at 1/32 scale. I'm currently building(just started) one at 1/24 scale for flying. Hope to have it done by spring.
Here are some pic's of the completed model.

On the contrary; your build is excellent, and I'm looking forward to the final result. No doubt it will sit very comfortably beside Mr. Meen's model.

All the best, Mario, for the New Year, and best of luck with the LEM build!

The progress looks great. What adhesive did you decide to use to stick the foil down with?

Thanks. I used 3M-77 spray adhesive.
