I just wrapped up painting an InFlight Omega kit today. Actually I still need to clear coat the rocket, but I'm going to wait for the paint to be completely dry before doing that. I'd hate to have the paint craze up.

I had the original Estes Omega as a kid. I lost it somewhere along the way and it's always been something I wanted to build again. I was happy to see InFlight come out with one.

The build was very enjoyable. All parts were of top quality and the kit even included some upgrades to the original including a 48" Kevlar shock cord. One end connects to the engine mount and the other to a 24" elastic shock cord. It also comes with laser cut fins.

The attached pictures also show the InFlight Nike-X I purchased at the same time. I haven't started on that one yet.

I've had the rocket complete for a while now but am just getting comfortable enough with the new Krylon paint to get a good paint job so I wrapped it up tonight.

The listed weight without engines is 4 oz. Mine comes in at 4.9 oz. Lots of coats of paint being the reason. :)

I won't launch this one locally. I'll wait to get up to my new favorite launch site in NH which is secluded and large enough for me to get this thing back. I'm guessing it's going to get a lot of altitude.

(stuff snipped...)

Quite a nice job; you must be very pleased with the results. The Painting Gods have smiled upon you!

Thanks John! Yes this time around I'm happy with the outcome.

I did paint this rocket a couple of months ago and ended up sanding it again because of runs in the paint. I think I'm finally getting the hang of the new Krylon paint though. You need to take your time, expect to put on multiple very light coats, and never go heavy on the paint because it will run for sure.

Looking good! Do you plan on whipping up a Cineroc clone payload?

My scratch Omega is sitting all lonely after being rebuilt from the vectored thrust Cineroc clone crash. Right now it's sitting in stock configuration like yours, but if I can get this little gum cam focused clearly enough, I may use it in another Cineroc clone instead of the heavier TV downlink I used last time.

With such a light payload, I could possibly use adapters and stage it with a C6-0 to 1/2A3-4T and keep it out of the trees in my pasture. That 1/2A3-4T nozzle is awful tiny, though. I wish Estes still made the 24mm C11-0 and 18mm 1/2A6-4. That would be a perfect low altitude Cineroc staging flight. I think I only have one pack of C11-0's left and I haven't seen a 1/2A6-4 in decades. :(

You know this would be the perfect candidate to try out my (yet to be received) micro keychain camera on. I can just strap it to the side of the rocket and get footage, including the seperation of the booster stage which I bet would look very cool.

The vectored thrust Cineroc clone crash sounds like it wasn't pretty. How much rebuilding did you have to do?

Great rocket. I flew mine once on with the D to D staging on an extreamly calm day here in Kansas and it went up perfectly straight and beautiful. Even recovered it in the school yard. It was one of the best flights that I have ever seen. Still waiting for another calm day to do it again. :chuckle:

Hey tbzep, how about a B6-0 to A8-5 or B6-6 staging combo ?
That should be even lower than your proposed C6-0 to 1/2A3-4T combo and much easier to ignite the upper stage.
Alternatively, there ARE very simple ways to ensure ignition of that 1/2A3-4T in the upper stage even though the nozzle is small. PM me and I will discuss.

If you were in my neck of the woods and your launch site allowed UN-certified motors like my backyard does :D , I'd be happy to loan you a B14-0 to B8-7 combo from my old motor stash for a great flight.

The sustainer and Cineroc clone payload were completely crunched. Basically, I had to rebuild everything except the booster and the unused Omega payload/nosecone.

I just might try the B6-0 to A8-5 combination. When I rebuilt the sustainer, I used 1/4" launch lugs so I could go with a nice long launch rod. Once I finish the new Cineroc payload, I'll weigh it all up and see how close it comes to Kody's gap staged Aerobee Hi. Heck, I might even try an A8-0 to A8-5! :D BTW, I have an uncertified pasture too...I just don't have any B14's.

Wow that's tough, but I bet it felt real good when it was all back together again.

No. Carl didn't come out with that until after I turned my own transition and nosecone.......as usual.

I still don't have the Cineroc payload rebuilt, but it's nice to see the Omega in one piece again....but I didn't enjoy the sanding.

BTW, here's the launch report with the Cineroc's crash starting in post #7. (http://forums.rocketshoppe.com/showthread.php?t=1332&highlight=cineroc)
It's photo intensive so don't click if you still have dialup.

Here's the Cineroc crash video. (http://forums.rocketshoppe.com/showthread.php?t=1335&highlight=cineroc)

Aside from some great pictures and a very cool video I was amazed at that one photo that clearly shoes the thrust vectoring and how that affected the rockets flight profile. If not for that one picture you might never have known what actually had happened.
