This is a neat little kit that comes with a lot of paper work for the Estes club. Also comes with peel and stick decals.

I got that "club" kit when I joined as a kid. Unfortunately, it's all been lost over the years from to many moves...

When did they quit doing that anyway?

I think 1986 was the last year for EAC. They later came out with another club, ESP, I think around 1991. It came with the Yankee Clipper.

This was a fun build and ready for the primer, but we have rain on the way so I will see what happens. Basic construction, Elmers Glue-ALL for the basic build, Estes traditional tri-fold rubber shock cord, 3 coats of Aerogloss Balsa Sealer for smooth fins. Will spray primer, old formula Krylon Glossy white and yellow trim. For the Pink/Magenta paint, I will try Testors.

I have several parachutes in this style, but none that were still attached like this one. What are the little pennants on the right side?

Supposed to be flags when displaying the rocket.

I wonder if anyone has a good scan of the iron on shirt decal. I'd love to try to get a guy that scans in and makes T-shirts at the flea market to make me a duplicate.

Actualy, the parachute was designed for the Cold Power Land Rocket line and depicts a dragster chute. The flags are racing flags.

Actually I believe those flags were used for the coldpower cars.

EDIT: Ah yes, and if I had read further I would have seen Leo's response before posting...

I was able to shoot Glossy white just before the rains came in. After 3 coats of balsa sealer, I primed the balsa with Plasti Kote Spot Filler and sanded back to balsa. Then shot a coat of white Plasti Kote sand able prime. Wet sanded smooth then light coats of glossy white. Will mask and apply yellow when the rain stops this week.

The rain has stopped so I was able to finish the Viper. I painted her with old Krylon and Testors spray cans....I really like the Testors paints, I have been using them for 25 plus years. I know there is better out there, but I really like the smell, it brings back memories. The only disadvantage is it can take a few days to dry. I used the peel and stick decals that came with kit. I could have made my own water-slide decals, but then it wouldn't have been a vintage build.

I remember begging my parents to let me order this and then bursting when it finally came in the mail.....during the winter. Brings back memories...I may need to do a clone of this to display

Love the Moe Howard/Pete Rose-style "Angled Bowl-Cut" hair-DON'T on the guy on the packaging.
Now there's a style that was best left in the 70's to NEVER return.

The rocket looks great though.

I did always wonder why they used those gawdawful "Peel-n-STINK" decals instead of decent waterslides. Peel-n-STINKS must be harder to produce as well.

I think that's about what my hair looked like at 14 (1975). But many of the 70's items and colors are coming back is you watch HGTV...

Mary was just looking at her new J.C. Penny's flier and a purse (carpet bag) that was "burnt orange".

Burnt Orange ????
Egads and WTH !!!!
What was purported as supposed fashion from the 70's was gawd-awful and should NEVER return.
Hideous hair-DONT'S, bellbottoms, horrid color patterns, ties and coat lapels the size of Texas should be made ILLEGAL as optical POLLUTION !!!!
I grew up in the 70's and thought it was awful the FIRST time....

Now there's a style that was best left in the 70's to NEVER return. Ya know, in the 70's, I would go for many weeks - months - between haircuts. I remember, as a little kid, going to my dad's barber shop in the late 60's and seeing middle-aged guys who got their hair cut every couple of weeks. Yet, only a couple years later, I'd be going months between haircuts.

Now that I'm middle aged and have a bunch of the stiff, wiry, gray hair around my ears, I know why those guys used to be in the shop every two weeks - it's like wearing brillo pads on your ears - I gotta keep it clean or it annoys the pi$$ out of me :D

A fact that few other than Leo would know. It is nice to have an encyclopedia living so close at hand :)

BTW I await decals and I shall have the Ajax done...
