Oh, wait.....that can't be right. :p :chuckle:

This is a joke thread. It is not meant to be a discussion about censorship, allegedly over-zealous moderation, etc. Specifically, the theme is: "Titles of (imaginary) Forum Threads That You Would Least Want To Read." These are to be rocketry-related only. IOW, threads whose very titles tell you "Nah, I'll skip that one."

To start, here's one:

Nah, your IT dept must have a real short DHCP address lease time. You keep pulling in a new IP. Unfortunately, there are a number of computers in the TN school system network IP range that are infected with bots that try to setup bogus accounts on vBulletin forums for the purpose of spamming. As these bogus accounts come in, I block the IP's that are doing this. My guess is it is the student access computers that are infected vs administration computers.

Techniques:

I recently purchased an OOP Estes Mosquito and instead of using the recommended first flight motor, 1/4A3-2T I want to use the more newton second-able A10-3T to blast it off with.

I saw where others used fiberglass and other advanced composite materials for no apparent reason so I swapped out the balsa fins with some I had cut from 1/4" plate steel and wrapped the entire bird in carbon fiber with aeropoxy. I used a steel ball bearing for the nose cone because the balsa dented when I inserted my finger nail into it. It's a slightly smaller diameter than the body tube since the body tube is now about 3/8" thick from the carbon fiber so I grinded a bevel into the top so the steel ball bearing now has a good fit. I still can't figure out how to attach my kevlar shock cord to it but I know an engineer and he's helping me with my build.

Do you think it will work or should I use a different engine in this. It weighs about ten pounds but I haven't painted it yet so it may weigh a bit more.

.Mark II responds: You don't need to attach any Kevlar. At apogee, your Mosquito ejects its motor and recovers via featherlight recovery. Use felt tip pens to color your rocket instead of paint. It will keep the final weight down.

Techniques:

Thanks Mark II only I wish you would have responded sooner. I drilled holes in four of my five fingers on my left hand trying to hold the ball bearing still so I could later install my forged eye-bolt not even realizing I don't need the Kevlar. I probably should have read the instructions. I'll invert this bird and pour epoxy down the body tube to hold the ball bearing in place and get a good forward seal. I'll be careful not to pour too much in so the engine won't stick out too far and make my bird unstable.

RockSim still shows zero altitude no matter what engine I select

I'll have to write to the programmer because there is a bug in the program. Every time I launch the rocket and try to view it in the simulation flight profile the rocket doesn't blast off up into the sky, it just stays on the pad.

What kind of felt tip pens work good on steel or should I rough them up some with my belt sander first? I was going to cover the fins in carbon fiber too but I figured that would be overkill.

Forget the belt sander - sand blasting would work better. You might be able to adapt one of those suckers they sell for etching glassware, but a commercial rig would do the job faster and more efficiently.

As for the markers - I think the dry erase markers would be best - that way if you fly it a couple times and don't like the color, you can just wipe it off and use a different marker. And, yes, the carbon fiber would be overkill - glass and epoxy should be fine over those steel fins.
