the bat

i have decals for the bat rocket by estes. problem is i do not have the kit. i have a kit called dragonfire by squirrel works. my thinking is the fin shape/ size is close enough to build dragonfire as a bat. the bat decals should work on dragonfire yes or no ? anybody out there with these kits have an idea? :)

I recently downscaled the Estes bat to T3 (.375") body size for flight with MicroMaxx motors. below is a scan of the full size fin template from My orginal Estes BAT. This should allow cloning your own BAt to use your decals.

If your decals are origials from an Old kit I'd also suggest giving them a freash coating of Krylon UV resistant clear #1305 before attempting to use them. this will ensure that will work as well as the day they were printed:) I use this trick with OOP OLD kits all the time.

Hope this helps

I downloaded the Bat decals from this site
http://www.oldrocketplans.com/estes/est1362/est1362.htm
and laid our Dragonfire fin template over them. It looks like the decals will fit on our fins, but it's up to you to make it all look right. Personally, I don't think the fins look all that close.

Just out of curiosity, why isn't The Bat on Jimz?

Because I have it on YORP!

JimZ hasn't updated his site in a couple years. I still update mine. We also have a gentleman's agreement not to post plans that the other site already has online.

Not quite true LTV:
JimZ is back uploading new stuff to his site, and has been since last summer.
Sure wish I'd visited your site as I had to redraw the entire Decal set before downscaling my Micro BAT. Oh well thats what I get for not looking:)

We just need to have Carl make a balsa version of the PNC-50X nose cone. The BNC-50X that he does have is not quite the same shape.

BTW, Excelsior Rocketry has an excellent set of decals for The Bat. That's where I got the set for my "still just in primer after two years" clone. :o Every couple of months I take the decals out of their folder and admire them. Then I put them away for another couple of months... :chuckle:

Actually, my building skills have improved so much since I built that clone that I'll probably just save the decals and use them on my planned "do over" of it. ;) The Bat was one of the first clones I built.

Coincidentally, I was just over at my sister's house this evening, watching "The Dark Knight" on DVD. :D

I agree here :)

Same with the PNC version of the NC-55AO ... does not look the same ( narrower tip ) than the more rounded BNC version,a nd looks out of place using the BNC on some clones.

Carl ?

:D

I have 3 Estes Sprint rockets and 2 Constellation rockets with the BNC-50X. The 5 nose cones are not identical. I have ordered the BNC-50X from Semroc and it is close to the Estes BNC-50X. The PNC-50X has a slightly different shape than the BNC-50X. The closest thing I have seen to the PNC-50X is http://www.hobbylinc.com/prods/tf.htm
You just have to cut it down to size.
