That's because it was "coming soon" this morning, but by the time you saw it they moved it to "what's new." https://www.estesrockets.com/new/00...orer-aquariustm |
Not a big fan of this rocket ….. I built one from a box of parts I won in an Ebay lot once. Meh.

I have to agree with you. There just something about it that doesn't excite me. :p |
Me three. It's a cool design and I like looking at it but it doesn't make me want to build it. I think it's a slightly odd choice for a bring-back, but what do I know.
|
I sanded and sealed enough cylinders on the Estes Outlander to last me a loooong time. You guys know how much I love sanding.
|
I'm thinking along the same lines as everybody else.
I like seeing the bring-backs - But there are too many tube seams to fill! |
Maybe Estes should have asked here if they should release this model.
Yeh, not that attractive. But everybody has an opinion. For bring backs, how about all the models I showed with the pnc-50sp cockpit nose cone. Maybe upscales like they did with the Interceptor and Interceptor E. Everybody likes upscales. |
PNC-50SP Nose Cone
Or, how about a BT60 upscale of the Soaring Eagle? Shoot, even that with the venerable PNC-60MS or AH would suffice!
With laser-cut stuff, might make THAT build MUCH easier! Ive made such myself years ago, but *hated* dealing with custom 'fiddly bitz' with such a model. Too bad I cant afford a laser cutter for my 50th birthday!! |
I like it but I also think the N.C. was used only on this model, so it would be great if John could come up with a creative sister ship.
|
I got a pair of the nose cones and display nozzles in a Designer's Special back in the late 1990s. They are still sitting in a box with other used plastic nose cones.
|
Guess I am the odd man out on this one. I liked the model when it first came out and will likely buy the reissue. But that's me! :D :D :D
|
I'll wait until they hit the clearance bin so that I can stock up on body tubes.

I'm in as well. |

Me too. I never build one before. |
Mojo has the best idea for this one. Hopefully Grabby Lobby will get them.
|
Years ago I actually needed one of those cone.
I had to make a version of that cone to fit a 6" tube. Darn thing was as big as a soccer ball! I called Christene at Estes and she sent me one but...not before she drew an iris and blood shot veins on it with a Sharpe. Maybe I should find it and post a pic of Christene's artwork. |
Was that for jimzcatz's upscale?

Why yes it was! :) |
I am always a sucker for the sci-fi fantasy models like these, the unique nose cone is what makes it, well, unique. Yeah, why not make some new kits with this nose & nozzle, kind of like the Scorpion, Lynx, and Puma, you know? Just keep 'em coming, I will keep buying 'em.
|
Everybody should at least build one in their lifetime!

The Hobby Lobbys in my area are getting very sparse on rocketry products. Hopefully they will restock for the holidays. |

I like the model but I think that's how long it would take me to build! |
I always that this was ugly, even though Sci-Fi models are some of my favorites. Perhaps it'll sell poorly and we'll be able to get them deeply discounted in a couple years - might be fun to build one for the E16/F15.
|
Kinda looks like something that would have been featured in the original Battlestar Galactica as a "Garbage Scow/Trawler" holding contaminated Solium.

Here is a pic of what I got from Christine at Estes years ago.
The second and third pic is what I did with it. |

Did you turn the inner ball? (How?) Or is that hand sculpted? Doug . |
Quote:
I shaped it separately and glued it on. The entire cone was made with blue foam then fiberglass/epoxy. |

I found your CAD drawing in an old thread of that build and scaled down to make measurements for a cardstock 18mm powered version. Main body is 24mm with 13mm tanks. Shown here next to a MR for scale, and a couple of other cardstock builds. Thanks for sharing that, the instructions had a good top view, but your side view really showed the window well.

Like the Aquarius we have one we fly a lot. Nice kit
