Estes TA-550 question
Hello All,
I recently bought an Estes Designer's Special parts assortment, and it contains a couple of plastic BT-5 to BT-50 transitions. Are they the same length (not counting the tenons ["shoulders"] that fit inside the body tubes--just the frustum section) as the balsa TA-550 transition that was used in the Estes Aerobee 300 kit? Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help! |
The taper length of the TA-550 is 1-inch. How long is the taper length of the plastic transitions that you have?

The Semroc site lists the TA-550 as 1 inch.

I owe both of you an apology, because I just looked through the Designer's Special box again, and I couldn't find a TA-550 adapter (plastic or balsa). The closest-size part (of which there are two in the box) is the TA-2050; they are made of white injection-molded plastic, and come with glue-on "BT-50 end" bases that have molded-in shock cord & parachute tie points--these adapters' BT-20 ends have integrally-molded-in tie points. (I measured the frustum portion of one of these TA-2050s, and it is also 1" in length.) Again, I apologize for the error; I was sure I saw a white plastic TA-550 in the box (I once had a Klingon Battle Cruiser kit, which used a balsa TA-550).
