FREE eclipse glasses!

Hello All,

This NBC report (see: http://www.nbcnews.com/mach/science...know-ncna788861 ) includes links to sources of free eclipse-viewing glasses, and it also includes a link to a page about how to make one’s own pinhole projection viewer from ordinary household materials.

I hope this information will be helpful.

Maybe that page is being accessed by too many people at once? I sent the link to a friend of mine, and he didn't report any problems with opening it.

I just tried it again, and it opened for me: https://www.nbcnews.com/mach/scienc...know-ncna788861 (If this one won't open for you, try e-mailing the link to yourself after "backspacing-away" [to erase it] the 's' in the 'https' beginning part, so that it's only 'http'.)

Oregon Rocketry was invited to hold a demonstration launch at a "Eclipse Day" science fair at a private school right in the totality path.

Picked up my eclipse glasses at Fred Meyer!

During the 1970 eclipse, on Long Island, some people were using several layers of exposed photographic negatives. (Ruined photos were a common thing back then I guess.)

Better make sure to use "night launch" rockets carrying plenty of bright lights.....

Walmart has glasses for $1, if anyone has trouble trying to get the free ones. They are branded for the upcoming event. I went to the website listed on the glasses, and they say they are certified safe.

Cool! Now *THAT* would make for some unique onboard still and video shots (using film cameras or electronic 'gumcams'), using rockets with cameras that are looking both up and down. (As totality approaches, the tiny holes in leaves of grass, foliage, and trees will act as pinhole cameras, casting countless images of the 'crescent Sun' all over the place--I saw this phenomenon during an annular eclipse that crossed through northern Georgia on May 30, 1984 [in a small area of southern Georgia, it surprised astronomers by becoming total for a few seconds].)

Thank you for this information! A few days ago I ordered 30 of the Meade EclipseView cards from B & H Photo (see: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produ...rds_5_pack.html [they also carry Lunt solar viewing glasses]), but if they don't arrive "comfortably close" to the day of the eclipse, I'll purchase some of Wal-Mart's eclipse glasses at my local store. (I prefer the Meade eclipse viewing cards because I--and many of the other folks in my apartment building--already wear glasses, but the card stock eclipse glasses will do if the viewing cards don't come in a timely manner.

I was going to post that you could also get a free pair of solar eclipse glasses by ordering from JonRocket.com. But, we just ran out. In order to get a low enough price that we could afford to give a pair away in each order, we bought a lot of them from Lunt. By a lot, I mean 750 pairs. Since that was much more than we would give away, we also listed them for sale at just a little over our cost. What I did not consider is that "a little over our cost" meant that we were, by far, the lowest priced seller of the glasses on eBay. And that led to a bunch of orders. Even after I raised the price, they still sold out quickly.
