Well dang, they're looking like the real McCoy! How many of these are ya making?

Overeasy123 01-02-2018 11:26 PM

Just working up three, foamy. And, I hope it's not a Fireable Offense that I've masked to locate the Lug/Tunnel centered between fins.

They look great!—but I’m not quite sure how you employed the jig. Please elaborate.

Bevel Jig Elaboration.

See it now, JJ? I just made this up for this model, and it really made marking and remarking the bevel lines a breeze. I did a little whittling with X-acto, but mostly I removed the material with a 1" wide Sally Hansen medium-grit emery board. I don't think I got one wavy edge.

foamy 01-06-2018 07:25 AM

So, the “jig” is strictly a measuring device...

I like what the letters WAC mean in the name of this rocket.
WITHOUT ANY CONTROL.
Has a certain flavor of MAYHEM to it.

 Oh baloney.....it doesn't mean that at all.

WAC stands for Women's Army Corps?! WTF? I'd read earlier that it was Without Altitude Control. Are people just making this garbage up as they go along?

Yes. Lots of rocketry know-it-alls out there.

ghrocketman 01-13-2018 02:32 PM

That Wiki article is WRONG.
It was NOT named after the women's army corps, although they use the same acronym.

jdbectec 01-13-2018 03:46 PM

Actually IIRC I believe it stood for "without attitude control" meaning it had no control surfaces. I a!so recall that that was unverified.

He at least provided something to back it up. If you're right, you should show the documentation.

Without ATTITUDE Control effectively means the same thing. Unguided at all other than launch angle.
I stand marginally corrected.
Regardless, it has nothing to do with women's army corps.

That's one outstanding line of B.S. on the Wiki Page. I'm glad we got that settled.

Actually, that’s what I always thought also—in fact, I know I read it somewhere.

According to ROTW, both are correct.

astronwolf 01-14-2018 12:26 PM

The story with the naming, as I understand it, follows what was already posted here. WAC Corporal was a diminutive version of Corporal. So it's like a Womens Army Corps Corporal, not a man Corporal that's a bigger rocket. That doesn't mean that the rocket had anything to do with the Womens' Army Corps. The brass were like, you can't name it like that! So some quick thinking steely eyed missile man came up with the PC version, Without Attitude Control. No wonder GH likes that version better. It's more PC. :chuckle:
