Rocket Plans Wanted
Does anyone out there have a copy of the September 1983 issue of The Model Rocketeer?* If so, would you be so kind as to make a scan of the 'Canopus'*sport cluster model, and send it to me.* This is my own design that*I submitted for publication.* I wish to build a BAR version of it for my 'Old Fleet Clone' collection, but I no longer have my old plans or back issues of the MR.
Thanks! |
Looks like Narts may have copies of that issue of the mag.

Haven't forgotten, just can't get to the box with all of the MR's right now - with any luck I'll have access later today. S. |

 I always wondered how many guys who submitted DOM winners were still active in the hobby. I think you're the second I remember reading of, the Top Secret guy being the first.

Mr. cook.
Thank you so much for digging this up and posting it. It is well appreciated. Thanks to the rest of you for the responses! Wallyum, This plan was not an Estes DOM, rather it was merely submitted to 'The Model Rocketeer'. I was quite surprised at the time to see that it actually got published! Anyway, I'm going to build another one here in a month or two as part of my 'Old Fleet Re-Creation' project. The original Canopus was my 8th ever model rocket build, designed and built in 1973-4. It was my first cluster model. It flew about five or six times before being lost in 1975. I recall that it really soared on an A8-5 core and two A10s in the pods. Fun bird. If anyone cares to build one of their own and try it out, let me know all about it! Thanks, again! |
The guy who designed the "Flying Stovepipe" turned up at a LUNAR launch while I was still down there. He has one of the models.
He confessed that, no matter how carefully trimmed, it was luck whether the glider actually got into a glide pattern. I remember his girlfriend being amazed and a little scared that I remembered the rocket plan when I was a kid. I don't remember if I told her I saw the plan in a reprint, circa 1976. |
