Speaking of rescues.

I lost my best friend Chopper a month ago and this is probably the longest I've gone without a dog in my house.

I fixed that yesterday! They had a special adoption day at the local shelter so my wife and I got ourselves a new family member.

Not a puppy but older dogs need love too. He's a 7 or 8 year old male Beagle well disciplined, and very mild tempered (OK, he's just layed back)

They didn't give us much of any history on him since he came from the next county over.

I never thought of a beagle as a couch potato but this one is.

Meet Barney.

Somebody has to keep the wild critters in my yard under control.

His adoption certificate says "Beegs" but we changed his name to "Barney".

Good for you Gordie !
We lost our 17 year old Cocker Spaniel Macy 3 months ago, and our Boston Terrier Lucy got ill a month ago to the tune of $9300.00 in vet bills, but she pulled through.
I hav not been without a 4-legged bet pal much longer than 2 months ever either.
They truly are family members !
Enjoy your new pal.

They told me at the shelter that he is hard to place 'cause he's 8 years old.

Heck...I'm too old to. :o

Senior pups deserve a good family too !
Glad you are giving him one.

We are learning a few things about Barney.

He was making a fuss in his cage so I let him out to fix his blanket.

He immediately went to the couch.

No matter what we fix for a bed for him he goes right for the couch.
Come in from outside...right to the couch...
Finish his supper, right to the couch..

Barney is a true "couch potato"

The only exception is bedtime...he just has to sleep next to me.

I don't mind at all!

Oh yea, he seems to like TV a lot...really fascinated with it.

Congratulations! Having owned two beagles I can attest that they are indeed prone to laziness and obesity. They aren't so lazy when they're outside though! The good news is they typically live 12-15 years an sometimes even longer. You can look forward to enjoying some time with your new friend.

Sounds like you adopted a great companion.

Reminds me of my favorite TV show growing up.
