WANTED--Estes 2.5" nose cone
Got a Partizon rocket caught in a tree and the body and reload came down but the nose cone and chute are still up there
Estes doesn't have a 2.5" replacement cone in stock. Even when they did they didn't ship to Canada. Estes has an unusual 2.5" body tube. Why?? Who knows! Any suggestions?? |
Cut down the tree! Joking aside it can take a long time for a plastic nose cone to come down from a tree. I have been waiting for one to fall from a power line that has been up there going on two years.

Have the Sandman (Gordy at Rochwerks http://roachwerksmachining.com.istemp.com/) turn one for you, or 3D print one if you have access to a 3D printer.

To make it easier to get a 3D print I have attached a .zip file that contains an .stl file you could use for a 3D printer or have a nosecone made from this file using an online 3D print service (even some local libraries now have 3D printers or 3D print services available). To print this nose cone one needs a printer that can handle a 12.1 inch high part (or you could make the nosecone's shoulder at least 0.5" shorter to accommodate a 12" capacity 3D printer). I am still very new at 3D printing so use this file at your own risk. I have not attempted to print this nosecone from this file because its size exceeds the capacity of my printer (6" x 6 " x 9") ; I am working on making it in 2 separate 3D prints.

Thanks Bruce. I'll see if I can find a printer.

Estes was re-using the nose cone molds from the original Pro Series kits that came out in the early 1990s. |

I printed the 2.5" diameter nosecone in 2 parts last night and it came out fairly good see pictures . There is a ridge between the upper and lower halves and I had to sand the shoulder on the upper part to get the 2 halves to fit together. For my first try at doing something like this I will have a useable accurately sized nosecone after a little more sanding. This also means the nosecone .stl file I posted previously should work nice since I created the 2 files I used for these 3D prints from that same one. The nosecone fits perfectly into the 2.5" diameter tubing on the Estes Panavia I am building (I plan to decorate it like a Cherokee D) .

This nose cone is still available from Estes for $5.49+SH

Thanks for the update on the 3D printing. I'll try and find a local guy to do it. Estes has them back on the site but they don't ship to Canada. Bummer.
