Estes X-15 RTF
Mine turned up a decade or more after I flew it last, but I'm missing the engine retainer. Does anyone know if another kit shares the retainer with the X-15? I know they're squirrelly and somewhat of a wrecking ball in the air, but I would like the option of flying mine if it's just me and a calm day.

The big one or the little one?
Or more accurately, the 13mm or 18mm powered Estes X-15? |
The more recent 18mm version. I didn't realize that the early one was a 13mm version. Guessing that that one used the same motor lock as the Vampire/Jinx.

Yes, the 13 mm X-15 used the same retainer as the Vampire/Banshee/Jinx.
Not sure about the 18mm "flying manhole cover". I LIKED the "random mayhem" flight pattern of the 18 mm one. |
My understanding (but I have not done it to mine, yet) is that adding an engine mount and hook to the 18mm version cures most of the problems, including lack of retainer.
Gonna hafta sand the front of the engine area to fit a BT-20 and fabricate an adapter ring for the back, but doable. Just a thought . . . . |

To be honest, I've never peeked inside it. Intriguing idea. |

Kinda what made me think about getting it in the air again. |
I had the same problem. Mine got caught in a school yard tree as a kid. Found it had finally come down 20 years later. But, some of the parts were missing.

I have an extra 13 mm from a jinx if anyone needs one (free). Used and very slightly melted but would work (the locking part on the bottom is fine). I don't have the 18 mm.

Me! Me! Pick Me! I was just going to post that I needed one.
