Vodaphone Rocket

Vodaphone just released an ad about a child building his first rocket. The ad is from the Czech Republic and features a rocket building club those of us on the U.S. team compete against in FAI. Really interesting to see their build room filled with Nike Tomahawks, Bumper Wacs, and other scale models lining the walls.

In most eastern European countries sport model rocketry isn't available unless one belongs to a club. There are no hobby shops selling Estes kits and motors. So if a child wants to build and launch a rocket, they have to join a club such as the one shown in the ad. I've been to a similar club in a small town in Bulgaria and it was very impressive. The rocket building club is part of a bigger club where all sorts of models are built (ships, planes, rockets, cars). Very neat clubs which encourage a lot of creativity. So the downside is that you can't just go buy a model rocket in a hobby store. The upside is that there are lots of clubs like the one shown in this ad that encourage kids to build stuff.

There are several videos linked from the main page of the link below. Be sure to also watch the video about the Krupka Rocket Club at the bottom of the page.

Enjoy,

Steve

Is buying via the Internet or mail order an option for them?

You probably ought to stick with the tin foil hat you wear now...

Really great videos though. Well worth the watching.

Thanks for the links! That was excellent.

I wonder what they used, motor wise.

I saw an interesting comedy/drama, "Bye Bye Lenin," set in East Berlin right before and after the Communist government fell. The lead, a young twenty-something, has a big rocket from his school days. It gets launched, using a fuse, in the final scene. Certainly more than C power.

Did you watch the "mini mission control " video? Including the Skype call with Buzz Aldrin?!? Fun stuff.

Thanks for posting this, Steve.

Stefan, in the "meet the family" video there is a brief view of the bottom of Ota's rocket. Three motor tubes.....

A three motor cluster rocket with a GoPro and some sensors including GPS aboard. Pretty durn fancy for a first rocket.....!
