The Bridge on the River Kwai movie
The Bridge on the River Kwai movie is on right now (8/21), a good flick.
Sir Alec Guinness is one of the stars. I was thinking, oh boy, twenty years later he will be holding a light saber(?) to a big black guy with breathing problems. Too bad we could not blend the two movies together. |

The odd thing about the movie was the ending.
In the book they didn't blow up the bridge. The British wanted the bridge left intact. But blowing up the bridge was the coolest part of the movie. |
Yup! Everybody loves a good train wreck!

Except the engineer. |
A great flick ! When I'm having the occasional bad day Colonel Saito's admonition to be happy in my work is a wonderful motivator.

Several years ago I was building a small bridge over a stream withe the help of my Little Brother. I was whistling the theme song and my Little Brother asked me what song that was. I told him the name of the movie and he never heard of it. I said Sir Alex Guinnness was in it, he asked, "Who?", oh...Obiwan Kenobe. So we had to go to the video store :D He loved it. |
Ya HAVE to BLOW-UP the bridge !
That type of movie devoid of an ending EXPLOSION would be a ripoff. |
That is because the British write some of the most boring books ever. Then turn them into boring TV and movies. Once an American gets involved, stuff gets blown up.
I have yet to ever finish an Arthur C, Clark novel. They are written in a "day in the life" format like getting a flashlight is exciting. I finally got around to reading the story "Solent Green" was based on. It stank, the movie is better! ______________________________________________ |
Noticed it was on the other day too. Twice I think. One of the all-time great WW II movies!
