Let me clarify my comment. It was 97° and I did not want to walk very far. You know, old age.

The day I flew the C12, the winds aloft were going north. There are canyons north of the launch site. The story was told that last year the president of SCORE (host club for this NARAM) did not take comm gear of any kind, nor water, and got lost for an hour in the canyon. I flew a Mammoth on an F15, and it flew nicely, but winds quickly carried it toward the canyon. Some kind soul retrieved it. I saw the glint of sun off the gold body and headed his way. It’s easy to lose your bearings there due to a lack of landmarks, and you quickly get into little pines that block any view of the launch area.

That said, it’s a fantastic launch site. And lots of improvements were made for NARAM.
