If the Hawk is an MMX version of Estes' semi-scale Hawk missile kit (see: http://www.rocketreviews.com/estes-...-mike-goss.html ), it could perhaps--at that size--be modified to be a tiny, "perpendicular-planes-symmetrical airplane" (as most guided missiles are, with their crossed wings or fins & canards) rear-motor boost-glider. If a "liner tube" (especially a "sleeve-fitting" one, although centering rings would work if this isn't the case) could be installed inside the body tube, forward ballast (with a hole in it, to let the ejection charge pass [lead strip stock might work well for this]) would move the model's CG forward for stable vertical flight. When the liner tube--with the motor in its rear--ejected out the back, it would tumble down (or a streamer could be attached), and the model's CG would be shifted rearward for a gliding descent, and:

I was inspired about this possibility by the following: I once read--it may have been here on YORF somewhere--about someone whose cloned Centuri "Lil' Hercules" (or maybe Semroc's "Retro-Repro" kit of it: http://www.google.com/search?ei=6xD...1.0.OK5lrlnk1hw ) happened to be balanced just right, so that instead of tumbling, it glided rapidly, in a horizontal attitude, like the unpowered AGM-62 Walleye gliding missile (see: http://www.google.com/search?ei=EhX...1.0.Ba60kYO26rg ).
