I spent the better part of the afternoon trying to balance the Soyuz. I found an image of the RockSim file for the Norris version. It gives dimensions for CG and CP. My model is about 25% larger, so I scaled up the dimensions. Based on this info, the CP appears to be about one-third of the way down the boosters.
Rocksim shows the CG at 1 caliber. I went with a 2 caliber placement which put mine at 4" ahead. Only 1.25 oz was needed to achieve balance, which didn't seem like enough. I wanted to try it with an empty motor casing installed, but didn't have one. Does anyone know the weight of a spent SU 29mm case? I could add this weight aft and rebalance again.
I hope I'm in the ballpark with the CG/CP. My model doesn't have the transition on the main tube and the boosters have more air gap than a scale version.
