If you had a 5 (?) axis CNC with a laser head, you could stick the tube on the 'lathe' axis (assuming you had positional control, not just rotation) and at least mark the tube, if not cut it outright. That would be a heckofa math project.


Just creating the template to mark the form was a bit of a project. The hard part was coordinating everything so the helical parts would mate up properly to the front and back support fins. Had I a 5" piece of tubing to cut from, I would have used the same template and just cut it out.

Although programming a CNC or a laser cutter to do it would be cool.
