Yep, that's a gray area alright and leaves it open to their interpretation depending on whether or not they consider something outside the box.
Either way, I assumed it was a first incident, which would mean a lot less work to raise the money needed and a lot less wear and tear on the club and it's members. Also should be a wake up call on insurance and what it covers and by how much. Most people hear insurance and a high dollar amount of coverage and assume "We've got no problems, we're covered!" Um... well,not like most people think.
Glad you only have to raise $1,000. That's more than enough.
