I wouldn't call the old shroud line attachment arrangement (which I've used for nearly 50 years, and which kit and RTF instructions have shown for decades) a flaw; rather, I'd call the new arrangement an improvement. (It may not actually be new, but it is new to me, as I'd never seen it before a year or so ago; I'm glad I did, though.)

Good! I understand that M. Dean Black first utilized this stabilization method back in the 1960s for a scratch-built scale Minuteman ICBM that he constructed, and that it worked well. It would also be useful for scale models of vehicles (such as the Thor-Altair [Thor-Burner I] and the small Cosmos launcher, which was based on the SS-4 [R-12 Dvina] MRBM, etc.) whose scale-size fins are too small to provide adequate stability without a *lot* of forward ballast.
