"Space Center Houston" model rocket kit from Estes
At NARCON Last week, I found this in the gift shop of Space Center Houston. I have never seen this kit before. I understand from some of my friends who have worked at Estes that if you are willing to order enough you can get a specially produced kit. Does anyone know of any other specialty kits like this that are out there?
Looks like this kit was produced in October 2016. Maybe John Boren can weigh in on whether or not he had anything to do with the creation of this kit. I’m also wondering how many one has to order to be able to purchase a specially produced kit like this. I was pretty amazed that, at the gift shop, the regular retail price was only $14.95. Nice looking starter kit and a great souvenir! |

Yeah - I came home with one of those as well. Interesting combination of parts and the payload section is what sold me.
Pat Fitzpatrick (with whom I was traveling) saw it just as we walked out and wondered what it would take to have a “Museum of Flight” rocket. I should have bought two of them, so I could build one and keep one. But I just bought the one. The rest of the souvenirs I got for other family members were all wearable things (for wife, youngest daughter, three grandkids).

Undrillled, no warranty? Besides, how about: 13mm B3 (2.75") 18mm full D (3.75") 24mm D40 (line an A10) 29mm E30 (like an A10) |

Nice! Space Center Houston must have gotten them very recently. Was there a couple of months ago to see a special screening of the film about the Voyager spacecraft (before that screening appears on PBS and other medias), will be at Space Center Houston late next week to see Apollo - 13 astronaut Fred Haise presentation about his career with NASA. I'll definitely buy that kit. That kit wasn't at the gift shop before.

Since the decal in the kits says "The Learning Space," I suspect that the kits were originally purchased for the Space Center's STEM activities.

James, I had already had schedule obligation (months ago) to work that Saturday all day (7:15 AM - 10:30 PM), I see the event was a smashing success and lots of information gained. Congratulations for the superb organization of the event, I recall your success of NSL at Hearne in 2004. Maybe next time will work. Thanks for checking.
