I doubt any hobby shop owner or hobby distributor today has heard of Centuri.

Centuri has no awareness level with the general public.

Estes has re-issued 'Centuri' kits at various times in the past up to the present.

Semroc has done a pretty good job of releasing Centuri/Mini-Max/Enerjet kits.

And when people do say they remember, half the time they say 'Century' or 'Centauri'.

And I have literature with the Centuri name that was put out the last few years. I suspect the people that work for distributers and resellers and actually handle paperwork from Estes know the Centuri name, but have no idea of the history...unless they are one of us.

The corporate entity is keeping the IP valid whether they brand it or not.

Growing up in the 60's I ALWAYS wanted the Centuri Hustler...many years later Semroc made that possible. Thank you.

The Centuri Hustler has always been a favorite.
I have 3 of them plus a Lil' Hustler from Semroc.
One I cloned many years prior to Semroc offering the kit.

For me, my LHS at the time carried Centuri and Estes kits. Up until I became a BAR, I never heard of Semroc, FSI, and I did not know that MPC did rockets. I thought that MPC was a plastic model company. I grew up on Estes kits, but Centuri had a special place in my heart!

Hoping to make a lot of money in model rocketry, in 1969 MPC bought a small model rocket company that had the capability of making motors, Model Rocket Industries, then hired G. Harry Stine as a consultant, and used their plastics expertise to introduce plastic parts to model rocketry. They were very influential for their short time in the industry, introducing 13mm motors (or re-introducing them as Harry would tell you) to which Estes quickly responded. But then by 1972 it was obvious they weren't going to make money so they closed down the division, sold inventory and machines back to the original owner, who continued on for awhile as AVI. 20 years later the motor making machines ended up with FSI, the plastic parts molds ended up with Bill Stine, who formed Quest around them.
