Default Big, Burly, and Impressive...

Do you recall those words? I remember reading them in the 1973 catalog, over and over again. They really made an impression on me at the tender young age of 12, and this was one of those kits I drooled over, but never had one... 35 years later I bought a set of decals from Excelsior, and this summer finally put this clone together. I really love those gold foil decals (well, not the part about putting them on), and they sure shine!

As I'm getting low on old Krylon, thought I'd try Rustoleum. It was working well, until the can started spitting and almost completely stopped spraying on the 2nd coat (it was a new can). It covered well and has a nice shine, but I didn't get quite the perfectly smooth finish I was hoping for due to the can/nozzle issue. Well, it'll look good on the pad in any case!

Some pics of the finished model...

I knew those words right off the bat! Although it was the 79 catalog for me... One of my favorites as well, great job!

Believe me, that's a very disturbing visual!

To Paul K
If you are using the new Rustoleum Painter's Touch (2X Coverage) you do have to clean off the nozzle between coats.
For me, cleaning is nothing more than scraping off any paint build-up off the nozzle with a fingernail.
I use the Painter's Touch more than anything else now.

Same for me, Paul. I always liked the kit, but with my limited budget, I never got one as a kid. BTW, if you think the foil decals shine now, coat the rocket with future and you will swear they are still wet next week!

I liked my 1:1 clone so much that I built a 1.6x BT-80 clone....and after I turned several nosecones for it and a couple other upscales, SEMROC decided to produce the BNC-80AH.

Funny you should bring this one up, I'm building a 3" upscale for 29mm for my wife. Yours looks fabulous. I know what you mean about the foil decals, Nothing else comes close.

The Citation Patriot was one of the two rockets in my first rocketry purchase way back in 1977. My father and I bought and built a Citation Quasar and Patriot in the same day. Only the Quasar flew the same day; the Patriot did have to be painted and decaled. That happened on day 2 and 3; Have been bulding/flying ever since.
The Patriot has one of the most unique color schemes ever designed for a rocket.
