In between tinkering with a few rockets today ( while waiting for glue to dry,etc ) , I have been continuing to set up my latest fish aquarium ( 20L saltwater tank, my 4th tank - and drain on rocket money, oops ) .

undergravel filter lift tube is clear plastic, so on a whim, since I have rockets within arms reach, test fit a PNC50 cone and it;s perfect... not even loose fit, the wall is a lil thicker ( should mate nicely with a 1" od BT50H ), but looks good.

surprisingly enough, in order to fit the powerhead on top and under the cover, I had to cut exactly 4" off the tube..... I smiled, as that is the common length used in many Estes kits

Now I have to find something to build

How about a payload section with brine shrimp? Compare the effects of launch and g-forces vs. a control group.

I know that in the "olden days" the launch of live animals (including mammals) was "allowed", but at some point that position changed. There is no reference to this in the NAR safety code, does anyone know the specific wording/location of the NAR/Estes policy on this these days? I have a vague recollection of reading it somewhere.

I figured sea monkeys would be about the least offensive animals to launch...

In some of the Estes educational books (now available free as downloadable files on the Estes www.estesrockets.com web site), there are photographs of an Estes Scrambler whose water-filled clear payload capsule contained Goldfish.

Another interesting LBP (Live Biological Payload) model rocket experiment (conducted with control groups) would be to study the effects (if any) of acceleration on the motility of human sperm cells. The experiments could be conducted using both sealed containers without any empty space (ullage) above the sperm (to prevent it from "deforming" and flowing under acceleration and deceleration) and containers with ullage, which would allow the sperm to move under acceleration and deceleration.

I don't even want to try to imagine how you would get a fresh sample of human sperm cells on site for a launch. Lock someone inside a porta potty with poster on the inside door announcing the return of B14's maybe?

Well, that scene from the movie version of Tom Wolfe's book "The Right Stuff" made it look fairly easy. As an alternative, frozen sperm (thawed before launch) could be used instead.
