Vintage Estes 1368 Comet build
I know this is a easy boring build for most, but for me it is a vintage Estes kit so it will be fun. Also I need something easy since the next week or so is going to be busy and I still have to get through my stack of vintage kits.

Interesting, a Cobra 1500 kit without the two top tubes. The fin sheet was also used on the Antares (1278).

I always thought this was a Vigilante kit without the first stage.

The Antares, Vigilante, Cobra 1500, and Comet used several of the same parts. The latter three varied only in tube counts, with the Vigilante adding a booster.
The Comet truly is a Vigilante minus the booster and use of different decals.

Nothing boring about this !
Didn't you know every time you build a vintage kit you turn back the hands of time ? |

I used the Comet in many of my model rocket classes for 5th and 6th grade kids. 42 per class, 7 schools, 2 per year. I also used other similar kits. Larger kits are easier to build and go lower in school yards. Kids have an easier time with 4 fin rockets. Estes should re-release it for schools. I would recommend pre-cutting the fin marking guide and the SCM as U.S. Rockets does.

I still have a vintage Comet in my rocket box, albeit slightly truncated because of a B6-4 that didn't eject. It's remarkably light and a great performer. Best wishes with your build.

I forgot to take pictures of the built model and I am bummed because that is the best part for me, bare balsa, card board all put together. With the old yellowing parts it really has a nostalgia feel about it. I once again used Brodak sealer and once again I am impressed with the smoothness of the balsa. I shot a coat of cheap non filler grey primer and she is ready for the top coats of Old Krylon Blue. I had to use my cell phone for the pictures. Painting may wait a few days since we are expecting rain.

Build a booster for it and you will have a Vigil-Comet (or Comilante)
If you do that, you need to put a Charles Bronson "Paul Kersey" face decal on it somewhere.
