Panavia joins the Estes Cherokee D Family
Just finished decorating my Estes Panavia kit in Cherokee D decals see attached picture along with an original Cherokee D kit (balsa nosecone) that I built more than 40 years ago and an Estes Viking kit in the same decal scheme. I enlarged the Cherokee D decals 190% to get the body tube wraps to fit properly around the 2.5 inch diameter body tube of the Panavia rocket and hand trimmed the chevrons which were turned 90 degrees to fit the fins. I printed the decals using an HP inkjet printer on clear Silhouette self adhesive sticker paper. When the parts arrive to lengthen the z axis on my 3D printer, I will probably print a conical 2.5 inch diameter nosecone that more closely matches the one in the original kit.

Bob,
Thanks for the complement! I didn't like the color scheme on the Estes Panavia https://www.estesrockets.com/rocket...-iitm-panaviatm and thought it deserved something much better. I usually paint my rockets up like their catalog or face card pictures. For the Panavia I really didn't want to use the suggested green color scheme pictured at the Estes web site which would essentially camouflage it to hide in the trees and tall grass. The Estes Viking is a cheap kit that I converted into lots of different designs. I even saved some of those yellow tubes that come in the kit for positioning the thrust ring and made a tube fin design (with Centuri Groove Tube decals). Incidentally, the launch lug fit perfectly in the gap between the tube fins.
