Default Estes Greyhawk Orbital Interceptor clone

After seeing this rocket at the CMASS launch I'm planning to do a clone of the Estes Greyhawk Orbital Interceptor. It will fit right in with all the aircraft theme rockets I already have. I've printed the building plans and the parts, but I do not see a size bar on the balsa fins template so I'm wondering if they are the correct size. Could someone confirm the size of the balsawood di-cut sheet of the fins Please?

The plans from JimZ web site. Plan # 2068

The size of the two straight strips is 3/16" x 3-3/4" - use this to scale the scan.

Hope this helps;

Oh yes, and the sheet is 3/32" thick; neglected to mention that last post.

I took a look at the parts list provided on JimZ's site and noticed a few errors:

- the main body tube is a BT-55 IJ, precisely 9.00" long, not 9.25".

- the balsa sheet containing the balsa parts is indeed 3/32" thick, not the 1/8" as listed in the JimZ parts list.

- the nose cone, while virtually identical to the one included in #2133 AstroSat, nevertheless has a different diameter shoulder; the Greyhawk nose does indeed fit a BT-55, however the AstroSat nose fits a BT-56. Some adjustment may be necessary should you wish to use an AstroSat nose.

Best of luck with your build, and we look forward to your end result.

Default Shuttle Express NC

John,

Thank you for your input, it is very much appericated.
I'm using the Shuttle Express NC #2183. I'm not going to use the standard paint scheme, I have a few other ideas in mind. I wish Estes would bring this kit back, any chance you could put a bug in thier ear.

Default Parts size

With John Brohm's help(Thank you John) I think I have my answer. I printed the fin patterns on #110 card stock 8-1/2 x 11. This seems to be the correct size. I tried printing on legal stock(8-1/2 X 14) and it looked to be more the correct size. With the measurment John gave me for the necelle strips, the 8-1/2 X 11 is the correct size. We will see which is correct.

Again, Thank you John Brohn!

My pleasure, and glad I could help. Maybe Scott might find the chance at some point to place some errata notes on YORP.

Looking forward to your build.

Default Greyhawk build underway

I started this build this A.M., took a break then continued this evening. If someone decides to clone this rocket, I'm going to suggest they lengthen the engine tubes and use the paper intake to trace the the intakes and just cut the lengthen engine tube. I would like to know what the designer was thinking here?

Default No Power, No Work, No Build!

So the snow started flying Saturday afternoon about 2:30-3:00 p.m. I hunkered down for the evening to build rockets and watch retro T.V.(Batman,LIS, ST_TOS). I got thru two of my favorite shows with the third one just starting when the power went out. No big deal, I continued building with a flash light until it was time to go to bed.
Five days later, I can continue my building in light and heat.
Here is where I am.
