A New Work Bench
We're finally digging out from our move to the new house, and with that comes the (almost) completion of my new shop. Yesterday, my good friend and team mate, Steve Foster, stopped by to help me place the pegboard over the new bench. We're finally back in business, the excuses for not building a model now rapidly receding in the rear view mirror. As time progresses I'll get the rest of the shop organized (including a new paint shop), but just now I'd really like to work on something actually related to the reason why I did all this.
The second photo shows the new clock my children got me to christen the new shop with. Clever kids! A big thanks to my wife Lori, who as usual has been a big supporter and a big help while we finished the shop.

Lovely workbench!
Did you build it yourself or was it purchased? Could we get more details, please.

I think you need more electrical outlets.
Cool geek clock!

Hi Gordon; It's a combination. The base cabinets were bought at Ikea, the one on the right will be used to house the shop computer. I framed and faced the bench top frame with 1"x4" clear pine, the bench top itself consists of 3/4" red oak veneer with a 3/4" particle board underlay. The top is edged with 1"x2" red oak. The working surface is 10' long, 24" deep. I'm just putting Urethane on the top now.

Thanks Chris! Looking forward to actually building something on it. I got the Urethane finished this afternoon, and it really makes that Red Oak pop.

WOW! That's purdy!
Do yourself a favor and protect that beautiful finish. Make a top mat (cover surface) out of tempered Masonite. You will appreciate it the very first time you spill something nasty on it. Model airplane dope eats ANYTHING or a super glue spill. It's like the first scratch on a new car.

Well it sounds like you've been in my shop before, Gordon! I've always had the habit of using a small sheet of 1/8" hardboard/Masonite as my cutting surface. So your excellent advice is well in hand!

Yep, for woodworking a wooden top is OK but no finish needed.
But a model rocket workbench has to be pretty needs some protection, usually 'cause it's in the house.
