Surprised that I haven't seen one of these yet - Estes Dark Energy to Rigel 3 clone
My Christmas gift from my daughter was a couple of Estes Dark Energy kits and a Solar Warrior. I busted into one of the Dark Energy kits earlier in the week and started a Rigel 3 clone. Strange bird. The dowels mount with the help of small cardstock discs. I've got plenty of the small ones, which are roughly the size of the punchouts from a Semroc baffle, but I've yet to find any of the larger discs, which are roughly the size of those left over from a 13mm engine mount kit. I was hoping to fly this one this weekend, with a whole back seat full of first time birds, but I just found out another launch has been scrubbed. Wish I lived in Texas where it's nice and dry.
Apologies for the lousy pic, but my camera was being a dick earlier today when it was sunny out. It only just decided to work for me.

Nice... West Texas isn't a complete solution either... the wind howls out there a lot of the time, (just like "Okla-homa, where the wind comes rushing down the plains..." ) and it gets SO dry that they have burn bans and stand-downs for months on end as well... Usually our weather here in SE TX is more moderate, but this past year we were rained out for pretty good stretches of time during the summer flying season... and the year before that it was endless months of drought and burn-bans shutting down operations for virtually the entire year... NO PLACE is completely rocket friendly-- just varying degrees of problems... Later! OL JR
