Having been a draftsman my whole life, I've used AutoCAD wherever I could. However it is way, way expensive.

Whatever program you do go with, except for the freebies of course, you can often find an outdated version for sale on ebay, then update for a fraction of the cost. Be wary of "Student" versions or other versions which are not full function.

AutoCAD for decals? Interesting idea, would be doable I guess.
I use AutoCAD daily at work but wouldn't have thought to use it for decals, I think any one of the many vector graphics packages are more suitable.

I have a version of AutoCAD and Corel.

AutoCAD is great for CAD drawings but would suck at making decal drawings.

Corel is great for drawing decals but kinda sucks for CAD drawings.

Now Corel works great for laser cutting and it will open CAD files.

Computer software is...complicated.

And, for most graphics, you can do them in PowerPoint as well....<g>

I know it's cheating, but it works great. I recently did a set of decals the the large Estes Nike Smoke with PowerPoint.

AutoCAD is a lot more versatile today than many people realize. Most drafters who use it (or one of it clones like ProgeCAD). only utilize what they need and never explore the rest of it's abilities.

With the 3D capabilities and rendering you could show and draw projects not possible in other rocket programs. It can be used to calc the CG of the object (if you know the mass of the component parts.

and those are just the things I know of or recall.
