Dead Ringer
Inspired by Pemberton Technologies' Screamin' Green Meanie, introducing the Dead Ringer.
Instead of the horizontal tube fin caps, these slant upward at a rakish angle, with a crosshair arrangement of traditional fins centered in each. The four vertical body tube conduits are each launch lugs! I imagine that the tube rings could be angled down in the opposite direction, and that the crosshair fins could have many alternate designs to tickle your own fancies. Also some consideration for reinforcing each tube fin to its neighbor might be in order. Construction-wise it's all pretty straightforward, but getting the fin tubes cut could be a bit of a stickler. I'd love some feedback! -Brian Aim for the sucker holes. |

This is my favorite of the designs you've posted today.
Last year I was going to enter the EMRR Design This Spaceship contest. The design I picked had an oval body tube (not round) like the tubes on the back end of your drawing. I dampened the inside of a BT-80 and carefully weighed it down with a couple of books on top. This pressed it into an oval shape. It was a bit of a balancing act. By the next morning I had an oval body tube that is still in that shape a year later. If I were to build this design, I'd compress a long tube, then cut it into the smaller oval disks for the back end. I'm curious, which software are you using for drawing it up in 3D? Nice work!

Be careful here, Hans... they apparently don't want you posting here without a RockSim file attachment.
I use Wings3D (an awesome and FREE 3D modeler prog) and Swift3D to render images. Thank you for boosting my morale a tad... -Brain Aim for the sucker holes. |

Here's the start of an ORK file for the Dead Ringer. Any suggestions for adding the slanted tube fins? And the crosshair fins?

And I'll be interested if that should ever come about!
I did find that Dead Ringer on the FlisKits page. That's an interesting design... I wasn't aware of its existence before I thought up the name myself. I may have to come up with a new name... Star Plug? Cloud Intruder? The Hoover? BreakWinder (I always like smelling my rockets after I recover them... )? I dunno... I'll have to think about it... And I want one of those SGM's myself. -Brain Aim for the sucker holes. |

The Fliskits website uses frames. So it takes a little trickery to get the right URL http://fliskits.com/products/rocket...dead_ringer.htm
