Electron launch!
Hello All,
Rocket Lab’s Electron satellite launch vehicle (see: http://www.rocketlabusa.com/ ) is being prepared for its maiden flight from its New Zealand launch site. This initial launch of the small (55’ [17 m] tall, 3.9’ [1.2 m] diameter) rocket, which has been designated, “It’s a Test,” aims to place the instrumented second stage into a 186 mile (300 km) x 310 mile (500 km) orbit inclined 83 degrees to the equator. The all-composite, liquid oxygen (LOX)/kerosene-powered vehicle uses nine Rutherford engines on its first stage, and a single one on its second stage. Also: These mostly 3D-printed rocket engines use battery-powered propellant pumps, making them the first to use these two technological innovations. There are also plans to launch Electron vehicles from Alaska’s Kodiak Launch Complex (now called the Pacific Spaceport Complex) and from Cape Canaveral. Below are two links to articles about the upcoming mission: http://spaceflightnow.com/2017/05/2...al-test-flight/ http://spacenews.com/rocket-lab-set...lectron-launch/ I hope this information will be helpful.
