Today I'm starting the build of the Quest
AEROSPACE ONE on my blog at: www.modelrocketbuilding.blogspot.com This turned into a complex build, lots of curves along the way!

I'm happy to see that someone besides me is going to build this tuffie! I have some advice if you're interested:
-the decals are peel-n-stick. That's both good and bad. Good, because of the acreage that gets covered. Bad, because the yellow portions of the decals are too transparent. Before you apply the Presidential Seal decal over the blue, be sure to first lay it onto a white backing such as white adhesive film. If you don't, it will disappear on the blue. If I remember correctly, any decals that are lain over white are OK. -there dosn't seem to be a rattle can shade of blue that matches the blue of the decals exactly, but I got close with Testor's. -because the canopy is a peel-stick-decal, I recommend you cut slits in it to help it lay onto the contour of the NC. If I ever do another one of these, I'm going to hand paint the canopy and ditch the decal. These photos are of the one I built just after the kit was released. I remember using a plethora of naughty words during the build. Have fun!

"Have Fun!" - yeah, right! Jeff, I read your comments before building this one and appreciated the heads up on some construction points. I wasn't expecting "peel and stick", and ended up drawing up the decals and printing my own water slides. All the blue areas were masked. After reading about your color match problems, I didn't want to go try a spray color match. I'd already been through that on the Quest Tomahawk build. The Presidential seal decals did get a white undercoat - actually a white decal "disk" under the yellow decal. It's all coming up in blog posts. Thanks for the build comments and heads up!

You're welcome, and you're right about the Quest Tomahawk (CM) blue--but it also depends on which decal sheet you get. On some of the sets, the blue is actually dark, real blue. On some of the sets (the newer ones I believe) the blue is more purplish because it appears that the blue is struck over red--or something like that. Whatever it is, it's very hard to match. My wife (a.k.a. "The V2 Vixen) mixed colors for hours to come up with something that was chromatically(?) close.
I've done the Tomahawk in both of the blue variants. I definitely preferred the real blue over the purplish. Too bad the kit went OOP--it was one of my favorites.
