Level 1 Rocket Project
This has been hanging in my shop for approx. 10yrs. It's an upscale Thrustline Aerospace Mighty Mick. 4" diameter LOC tube....38mm motor mount. I built this for my L1 Certification but never got it done. We had a couple of life events with parents passing / kids getting older / college / etc. and rockets just weren't that important at the time.
I'm finding time now to get back into it. I guess I'll weigh it and see what H or I motor would be appropriate. Can't remember what I had in mind on the motor retainer.... Then check with the local NAR / TRA club (Tulsa Rocketry) and see if I can schedule a Certification flight sometime this fall. Some hanger rash, but she looks pretty good. |

I used to fly my 4" models on 2 grain H200 EX motors on our smaller field. Something in that range would work well for an L1 flight. With an altimeter and two stage recovery, I could drop them right back near the pad.

4"...
Great colors!
Have a Binder Design Excel Dual Deploy (was Excel Plus back in the '90s IIRC). The 90's version was my original level 1 qualifier ~ 1995 with an AT H-123 (thanks Nettie!). It's in the que...great model. Bob

Found the motor retainer hardware in my flight box. I've got a LOKI case and an AT 38-360 case. Rocket weighs right at 5 lbs. Now to find a motor....

Well, that's easy then. I161, as you've got the hardware already. I used to fly gliders around 5lbs on this motor way back in the day, and those were the epitome of 'slow 'n low' but not tooo slow. Oh yea, need the shortest 6 second delay here, perhaps 8 if dead calm out and you're flying off a long 1/2" rod, or rail. |

Just ordered an I161W for the High Frontier launch in Pawhuska OK on Sept 29.
This might actually happen.... |

I've been going thru memory lane on this rocket. I found an old USB drive that had all my old pictures from years ago. This rocket was completed in November 2005....never flew it. My Father in Law passed away, then Mother in law was diagnosed with cancer and passed away....then my Mom passed from cancer. (Cancer Sucks!) The big green rocket just didn't seem important.
It's fun to see pics of the kids when they were little....and a skinny OKTurbo...with hair! So here are some "retro" build pics to show what the inside of this thing looks like. Last edited by OKTurbo : 08-23-2018 at 05:12 AM. |

Here it is with the kids back in '05. The little one is almost 14 yrs old now.....
Let me know if the pictures are too much. I'm a visual learner and always like seeing how others build stuff, so I tend to take lots of pics. |

Keep 'em coming! I never heard of the Thrustline Mighty Mick. Will have to check the old catalogs. Nice pic of the kids, must bring back a lot of memories. Where's the thin hairy OKTurbo? |
