Launch Rails
Glued on square stock, to be cut & sanded flush. How'm I gonna get those inside angles sanded square & sharp?

Beveled Conduits
Now they need to be Doped and Primered. I think I will paint them before gluing to the painted BT, to maintain a defined edge along the parts.

Masking for Fillets.
Against my better judgement I'm going with my usual Chunky Monkey Fillets. Where HCM would delicately lay in a bead of TBMTG and blend it with a moistened finger to preserve the sexy lines of the Sea Dart, I've drawn lines along the fins and BT using a length of 1/8 square stock and masked along those lines. I'm gonna apply the MTG straight out of the bottle along the fins and radius the fillets with a popsicle stick that has a clean and smooth cut at the tip. Clean up the excess glue at both ends of the fin, and any glue at the leading and trailing edges, remove the tape, and Presto!
I've convinced myself that I enjoy the squared corner detail of fillets done this way. Although mostly negligible after sanding and painting, they're still there, even after a final gloss coat. Do they give me the impression of a sloppily-welded joint, some sense of sturdiness, of being "bulletproof?" Is it like buying a $18K Snap-On tool chest to store a socket set that one picked up in the Bargain Bin at Rite Aid? Maybe, a little bit. |

First Fillets.
I fudged my "welds" a tad.

Veering from Spec.
The instructions require the Standoff and LL be placed alongside a fin. Since I couldn't locate the actual diecut Standoff in my secondhand kit, and I generally dislike fin-adjacent lugs, I cut my own and placed it between fins. I really should have completed the LL/Standoff subassembly before gluing it to the rocket.
I'm sooo thankful for TBMTG and Foolproof Fillets, oh wait, that was last Thursday. Jaybird the Workbench Cat maintains disinterest. ...and here's Step 17, as evidence! Last edited by Overeasy123 : 11-30-2016 at 11:11 AM. |

Dry Fit
Dry Fit, next to a Semroc Mini Optima. The Standoff's tall, but should be fine.

Progress-0
If my Cover Detail Parts register over One Pound on a Postal Scale, I'm gonna need to ditch major weight from other parts of the model.
I got overly-excited to spray my new Ink Blue Color, and rushed the white undercoat. Minor crinkling on the unique booster part has taken the wind from my sails. Why didn't I just let it rest for another day? I'll just go sit in the corner, now. |

More Progress
2X Apple Red & 2X Ink Blue. I ran across the Satin Ink Blue just yesterday, and decided the Navy Blue I had in stock wasn't gonna cut it.
(Crud. Looks like the order of my photos got scrambled.) |
