Thanks to everyone for all of the info ! This is a great forum! I wish that I'd had this much help back when I was a teenager and still had all of my hair!

What I hated about the old plastic supplied (among other stated above) was how badly it yellowed over time. Will the Lexan yellow like that? Allen |

Polycarbonate will not yellow. Neither will acrylic (Plexiglas). |

Just FYI, when I bought the sheets of polycarbonate I have, I got them at a local plastics supply house. They were very helpful, even to the point of going back into their warehouse to find some cutoff sheets to sell me for cheap. I walked out of there with about a half sheet of each size for something like $20, which was a steal. You might try this for whatever you end up looking for.

Once again, thanks for all of the suggestions for the fins. In the end I bought a sheet of .040 Lexan from a local RC shop and it worked perfectly. However, I decided to connect the fins differently than the original Estes instructions from 1966. I made the fins with a tab and a slot:
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/...re/IMG_0249.jpg I then cut a slot into the engine mount assembly making sure the fins are at an angle where they will not touch the engine tubes and also making sure that none of the ejection charge gasses will be able to go out of the slot. I also took 1/4" square balsa and cut it into 1" lengths. I then split them lengthwise and glued them so that they would hold the tops of the fins straight. This way all I have to do is insert the fins and pull down wedging them into place: http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/...re/IMG_0247.jpg http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/...re/IMG_0251.jpg The rocket is not 100% done, but it turned out pretty well thanks to all of the helpful people here. I'm not sure when I'll get to fly it, but when I do I'll put it on Youtube and post the link! http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/...re/IMG_0256.jpg http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/...re/IMG_0258.jpg |

Great job!! I can see you put a lot of careful work into it.
BTW, are you doing your build on a nice chess table?! I use to have a chess table like that in the 1970's - 1980's, too. Good luck on your upcoming GT-3 flights. Let us know how it goes.

You have a good eye! It's a fold and carry chess table made by the amish that I bought many years ago. Over the years I've collected a lot of Staunton chess sets and they go very well with this table. Don't worry, any cutting is done on a cutting board and the table is always covered when any gluing is done. |

Gemini Titan built
Here are three pictures of my recently completed Estes Gemini Titan. It is one of my favorite Estes rockets because it looks way cool! Unfortunately the instructions for this kit are incorrect (IMHO). In step 7 you should mark the tube with a paper ruler 1 1/4'' from the raised line on the lock ring. Don't do it. 3/4'' are enough. This is very important when it comes to the correct positioning of the decals. In step 12 you should mask off the white areas. The upper 1 1/4'' wide stripe must be 8 5/8'' from the rear end of the tube (instead of 8''). The paint scheme of the model on the front panel is wrong. Titan #12558 (= Gemini 4) didn't have a khaki ring on the capsule. (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...i_4_-_Start.jpg) Be careful with the decals. One of the four black rectangles is a bit wider. It's the one that should cover the supply line. Test whether the wrap-around decal with the dots fits (supply line!). Hope this was useful!
