Default RockSIM 9 is OFFICIALLY Released

I just got the email this morning (it was sent last night, about 6:30 CT) that the release version of R9 is now available. Those who have the beta version can use that registration file to register this copy. They do indicate you need to perform a "clean install", meaning you should delete the beta installation before installing the release copy. Save any designs you may have created to a temporary folder, as the new installation will overwrite anything already there.

Smile New Design: Star Strike

This next design I call the Star Strike. In this design I am once again using my favored open fin design. The open fin design usually adds just as much drag for stalility and actually reduces overall wieght to increase preformance. Besides it just looks cool . An upscale may be in order for this design the near future.

3rd Annual

2 Days Before Christmas

Enjoy and Merry Christmas to ALL, JP.

I downloaded the new official RS9, used the Beta registration file, and now the "About" option displays this:

"Version information
Apogee Components RockSim
Version: 9.0.0b67
Copyright: 2006 Paul L. Fossey
Beta release, 67
Registration status
License file verified.

This product is registered to:
Name: Jay Goemmer ..."

So did it work, or not?

I uninstalled the program *and* deleted the directory, but I still get the message above.

I had the same results yesterday and I emailed Tim / Michelle about it last night. I'll let you know what I find out as I haven't received a reply yet.

I did a complete clean install, even deleted the old directory and some registry files the uninstall left behind and still show Beta release 67. Possibly this is the final release and maybe they just didn't update the version info .....

I'm told that is the correct version - it was incorrectly named.

I got the same build number on mine. The difference between a BETA version and a RELEASE version is just the point where the programmer says it's "good enough". Remember, TVM also said the initial release would not have all of the promised features, but that those would come over time in the form of updates. I suspect the "b67" build was a "clean-up" build where last-minute bug fixes were done, but nothing new was added.

As an experiment, I did a "dirty install" on my laptop. First, I used the Add/Delete Programs routine to uninstall the earlier build, but left the folder and files in place. Then I did an install to that folder. No issues to report, the install seemed to work fine.

Smile New Design: Shadowfeet Interceptor

Here we go again with the paper transitions on the Shadowfeet Interceptor. Adds to the bulid complexity I know but, it should be well worth the extra work to achieve the sci-fi looks of this design. My biggest question to ponder, with this design, is how straight it will fly with the non asymmetrical fin design?? Only a test flight will tell.

That would be the 12 designs for this years 12 Days Before Christmas.

3rd Annual

1 Days Before Christmas

Enjoy and Merry Christmas to ALL, JP.

Exclamation New Design -- Star Legionnaire

I'm going to post this design now, as R9 seems to have been corrected for the length error. The latest update -- 9.0.1 f69 -- calculated the length where it ought to, and the simulation runs suggest the design will actually fly.

Length: 33.00"
Diameter: 1.04" (ST-10)
Fin Span: 4.98"
Weight: 2.75 oz

Average summary of 10 runs:

C6-3......415'......Dv between 9 & 11 FPS......48" x 3/16" rod

Keep in mind the need to provide gas passage through the pylons, as the parachute is in the forward pod. I suggest using several 3/16" launch lugs in parallel, built into the pylons. The pylon patterns are not solid blocks of balsa, but should be hollow, with the lugs sandwiched between two outer skins. These skins could just be pieces of cardstock, with an inner structure of balsa to take the loads.

Enjoy!
