007255 - Little Joe 1 Description
Skill Level 3
The Little Joe booster was the first rocket designed solely for manned spacecraft qualifications and to measure critical parameters at higher altitudes. The Estes 1/34th scale Little Joe stands almost 18” tall and launches to 400’ on a C6-5 engine. Other features include a plastic Mercury capsule and engine nozzles, precision laser cut balsa and printed card-stock fins, high quality waterslide decals and a colorful 15” parachute for “safe reentry.” The Little Joe 1 will soon be in stock for an exciting holiday gift that every Rocketeer will want to build and proudly display.

I hope someone offers a 3d printed part to replace the capsule adapter shroud, that would improve the durability and finish.

LJ-5A and LJ-5B used centerline window ("big window") capsules, just like those flown on all of the manned Mercury missions from Grissom on.

LJ-5 used a porthole window capsule, and can be modeled with reasonable accuracy using the parts of the forthcoming Estes kit.

This stuff is nice. I worked with him on resizing a Mercury tower for the old K-41 that also fits the larger of the two Dr. Zooch kits. Shop his stuff, some of it's a little pricey, but its super accurate. For what it's worth, the prices have started coming down. . . .

AC Supply still shows the Little Joe coming in October and the 2157 Saturn V in November.
