When our club built models for another show done around here ("Halt And Catch Fire") we noted to the props manager that the rockets they chose included rockets that weren't available in the time period being portrayed (1994. Among the rockets they used were the Estes Big Daddy, and an Estes PSII kit). He told us it didn't matter, as long as such a rocket *could* have existed then. Although, in the indoor office sets, they had period-correct PC equipment (they didn't have to be working; the displays were just pasted on most of the monitors -- even in HD you can't tell)

The mall scenes in Stranger Things were done at the nearly defunct Gwinnett Place Mall. It actually opened in 1984 with a similar amount of hoopla. It is so almost defunct that a girl was killed and her body left to rot in an abandoned Subway in the food court. They didn't find her for a couple of months.
