That ads on top of images thing was temporary; they claimed it was a mistake caused by loading up the wrong forum software. They're not doing that currently AFAIK.
I expect they will do it in a few months, though. They do it on other forums they run.

I've read the threads about the "whining" about ads on TRF and here... seems very hypocritical to me... I guess if anyone voices an opinion someone else disagrees with their "whining"... whatever happened to civil disagreements?? Can't we all just get along?? LOL
 Anyway, what irks me, is the "solutions" that a fistful of people commonly keep going on about... sorry but I don't want to have to download a bunch of adblock programs on my computer just to view a website... It's just irritating, not the end of the world. It's happened before to websites and it'll happen in the future. Once upon a time space.com was a good website, then they just trashed it all to h3ll and gone with ads and screwed with the appearance and functionality until it just wasn't worth the trouble, all the while the content got suckier and suckier... so now I wouldn't line an electronic birdcage with it. About the same way farm magazines have gone over the last 30 years... I have a collection of "Progressive Farmer" and "Modern Farming" magazines from the 50's and 60's, and there was TONS of good information in there... a lot of it still relevant all these decades later. Those magazines today are only useful for lining birdcages-- just yellow dog journalism and corporate advertising, and EVERYTHING content-wise has a distinct slant that fits with the advertiser's 'agenda'... NOTHiNG that doesn't fit with that agenda will be printed, unless it's to be ridiculed... Sorta like the rocketry mags... the older ones had a lot more "useful content" than the modern ones IMHO... I was a NAR member for a couple years, just to get the SR mag, but the content left me saying "I'm paying all this money for THIS??" and so I dropped it. My old American Spacemodeling mags had a lot of good info, but these modern ones, is mostly adverts and contest reports, and some high-power stuff I could care less about. Oh well... I guess some folks like that sort of thing; more power to them, but they can pay for it too... I'm rapidly starting to see GH's POV on this one... later! OL JR

Plenty of the most knowledgeable and interesting posters left or were banned. This kind of thing is terrible for communities. I'm not outraged as some others are. Just resigned to our fate. Kicking up stinks, stamping feet, and grand exits will make no difference whatsoever.

They just put the "content" in as bait for search-engine bots, so they can suck us in to see their ads. Forums are a real plum with tons of real content to attract viewers. It's like flies on sh3t. It's gonna happen. The only way out is either through the dedication of a hobbyist forum administrator, or a subscription service. I don't think most people really care. TRF is big - many members, many posts, many big rockets. It has to be that way for a reason.

The way I figure it, the Internet is mainly good for two things: pornography and advertising. Come to think of it, they're actually the same thing. I know I certainly miss the Swedish Bikini Team
I can't seem to remember what brand of beer they were advertising?
