Default Gleda's Accident

Many of Gleda’s friends in the rocket community are already aware that she recently had a serious accident. This is to pass along some details and current status.

On Sunday the 10th of August Gleda was watering flowers in the front yard, when she tripped on a garden hose, causing her to fall. The fall caused bruising of her left shoulder and wrist, bruising in the area of her left eye (serious black eye), and the fracture of a vertebrae in the upper part of her neck. Following a 911 call, she was taken to the hospital in Canon, then taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs. She was operated on late that day to stabilize and repair the broken bone in her neck. Fortunately, there was no damage to the spinal cord. She was in ICU following the operation, then spent 7 days in the hospital rehab facility. She is alert and doing well, and was able to return home Friday (8/21/15). She will need to continue home therapy for several weeks, and wear a neck collar for about 4 months to prevent re-injury (she is looking forward to Christmas without the extra gear). We are optimistic for a full recovery, and she should be as good as new after the first of the year.

Gleda says that breaking your neck is not a “fun trip”, and promises not to repeat the experience.

Prayers for a speedy and full recovery.

Also, a big thank you for Ms. Gleda's hand written words on my order sheets that came back with my orders way back when. I have no way to know if it was ever actually her that filled my orders, but I choose to believe it was!
