I'm going to try and build a Gemini Titan II based on the original Estes plans from the JimZ page. I've got all of the parts except for the clear plastic to make the removable fins and I was wondering if anyone knows the thickness of the plastic and where I could get some?
Thanks.

If you give me the part number, I can track down the thickness.

You can also do a web search for plastic sheets, this discussion came up previously, and I gave an web site, don't remember off hand though.

Also, look up sites that sell LEXAN.

The materials was listed in early Estes catalogs, and, in the 1975 Estes Custom Parts Catalog

It does not mention the type of material, but, it does give the dimensions.
Here they are.

CFS-20 3 X 9 x .02 thickness

CFS-40 3 X 9 X .04 thickness

Making and using the fins on the original (1966) version of the Estes Gemini-Titan was a DOG. I wish you luck in building your model.

Thank you very much for your help! It does look difficult and I may come up with an alternate way of attaching the fins.

Just for info. Concerning kit #1978 the plastic thickness is 0.059 inches.

The original material was cellulose acetate butyrate. However, a substitute is polycarbonate, a brand of which is Lexan. Polycarbonate can be solvent bonded using a commercially available adhesive, which you can purchase at a plastics supply house - which will also carry the thickness of polycarbonate you will need. You could also try using polystyrene or even acrylic.

RD is correct on the thicknesses.

Searching this site will yield several discussions on this old kit. Happy cloning!
