So $6.99 is a 46% discount to the end user on the key product Estes wants to sell through.

That is not looking good for Estes, or real dealers or smaller online dealers. Just fine for Hobby Lobby and its customers.

Some repricing is needed there.

In the past most hobby manufacturers offered product at 40/25 or 55% off to DISTRIBUTORS and 40% off to DEALERS to which the distributors also sold.

If a retailer is offering distributor wholesale to the public, like Belleville has done in the past, then pricing is wrecked.

It might be time for a firm set sale price from the manufacturer and don't even discuss MSRP.

I can confirm the pricing is still wrecked. This make it tougher for the average local hobby store to compete when you have the larger internet retailers selling at 40% off retail since they get distributor level pricing and sell direct to the public.

Nice score, Bob! I’m hopeful our local HLs get some new product in soon. I’m probably glad they didn’t have all these, I really promised myself that I’d quit buying and reduce my current inventory.

I did order a Sasha from FlightSketch (one of the new vendors) but have not even opened the bag.

Since that is both a violation of the TOS and common practice, it seems the only two options are to normalize wholesale prices up a bit or to cut off that vendor entirely if they are a small enough portion of the overall market. If as it seems they are willing to sell the product and at only a 7-12% margin, price normalization to eliminate the /25 seems about right.

Nobody is still performing the /25 function. See the Demise of Hobbico and Cal Hobby.

This craziness has to stop....I have a ton of vintage kits to build and Estes keeps coming out with new kits I want. Oh well just have to build faster, hopefully have more time to build when I retire in 6 years. I wanted to retire at 50, but dang health care premiums are so high I have to put in another 5 years and retire at 55, but that's another story. Anyway I will check my local Hobby Lobby and see if they are in stock.

In reply to Post #23....Please Jerry, stop hijacking this thread about Estes new items with your lack of understanding of current pricing issues in model rocketry (or the hobby business for that matter). And last I checked (this morning), Cal Hobby is still in business.

Pardon my slight misstatement to say Cal Hobby when it was Pacific hobby. The other firm I mentioned Hobbico is also crippled. My post was on topic evidenced by the Fact that Estes has to have two differentiated product lines to have a Catalog line and a Hobby Lobby line. They have actually does this before under Tunik.

Wasn't Blue Bird Zero an exclusive kit for one big retail chain originally?

Later it became available to all.

Nope.
The BBZ was a regular catalogued kit.

My Local Hobby Lobby hardly carries any model rockets or engines anymore.
They Carry a few RTF rockets and a couple different starter sets and that's it.
They also don't carry a lot of the stuff used to build rockets anymore like sanding sealer.
They do still carry a full range of testers paints, and plastic models, but the rocket section have been severally reduced. Its sad really.
