1/100 Saturn 1B (Centuri or Estes)
I am currently building a Centuri 1/100 Saturn V as covered in this thread -- anyway, as I sit and look at S-IV/SM/CM stack sitting there, it just screams at me "clone a Saturn 1B!!!"
Boy there isn't much to go on--I found some plans for the Centuri version on JimZ Centuri Saturn 1B KS-10 and the Estes version on YORP Estes 1/100 Saturn 1B #2048 Both sets of plans are a little vague about the tubes. Centuri lists nominal dimensions in the instructions, where Estes lists some part numbers (not the "BT" series). I stumbled across a great reference on YORS called "Estes Body Tube/Kit Reference v3.1". This PDF file cross references the BT style pn to the new Estes pn system, plus every kit's tubes are listed, and if the BT tube wasn't listed, a substitute pn using the tube nominal OD is listed--fantastic!!! All y'all may have already known about this, but it was a neat find for me. Perusing both sets of plans and the BTRef document, I come up with the follow tube sizes: Code:
I have always assumed the fuel tank tubes were simply ST-7 or BT-20 tubes but using CAD confirmed they will not work. Has anybody cloned this? The Semroc tubes for the planned Saturn V kit make it tantalizingly close to reality (at least for the S-IV/SM/CM stack). I would love to have this sitting next to the Saturn V! BTW, I apologize if some don't like the script code in this post, but I could not get the columns line up correctly--I tried using spaces, but they get parsed-out when I preview. I checked the FAQ, and this was the only method I saw to get unispaced text. |

I *think* Totally Tubulars ( http://www.wooshrocketry.org/misc/tt.htm ) T-700 is the replacement tube for the Estes 1/100 S1B. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks Sel, I had TT in my database but eliminated them because I heard they weren't in business anymore...looking at the date on that price list makes me wonder (7/15/2003). I may be wrong on this, but ISTR posts either here or on TRF of people asking. There are great selections there for scale modelers--hope that resource is still available.

If you would like assistance in making a C-S1B or C-SV "replacement kit", contact me. I would sponsor it.
Short of that, shut up. Sponsor=free money. |

The fuel tank tubing should be .70" diameter. That fits inside of a BT-20. Totally Tubular (Jim Fackert) has tubing that is that diameter. Here is a link to what he sells, and yes it is dated 2003 but still good.
http://www.wooshrocketry.org/misc/tt.htm FWIW - My Saturn 1/70 Saturn IB drawing linked below. Has full size and 1/70 dimensions. You'll have to work out your own 1/100 dimensions. But then it is not hard to mentally move the decimal two places to the left. http://homepage.mac.com/georgegassa...B-70-100pct.gif I am also going to include it attached below, as seen in the thumbnail. But it is so large that it may become shrunk during the process. So use the above link to download it at "for sure" 1/70 scale. - George Gassaway |

I can have accurately sized high quality tubing made for such a purpose.
Derogatory comments aside. Someone would have to store it. Jerry Isn't 1/100 scale HO scale? How about 1/50 scale since we have G motors now? |
