Default Semroc Satellite Killer - question

I am building the Semroc Satellite Killer and have a question

Is there supposed to be a gap between the 5 body tubes and the large ring?

Thanks
Les

The original used die cut cardboard parts not laser cut ply. The external tube reinforced the legs/whatever. It won awards by the hobby association for ingenuity for BILL STINE of Centuri. I was there. The product was a genius application of multi-media (parts and processes) in a high value, low cost, yet high margin product. It was the penultimate product of the year in its category. It was mass produced and mass distributed. Jeff Flygare might have helped too.

If the large ring is supposed to help reinforce the legs, then I would think the ring would want to touch / be glued to the 5 tubes to help reinforce the large ring.

I think I will add some spacers to glue these together

And the parts seem to want to delaminate into multiple layers of paper - is this light ply?

They were limited to stock part diameters so adjusted.

If you want to learn something interesting, get an original Centuri Satellite Killer and list all the components and what method was used to make them. It was the last truly maximal Centuri kit.

Bill Stine was all-in.

According to the original Centuri instructions, yes there is supposed to be a gap.

Here's the last one I built this year. There's definitely a gap but the gap was lessened slightly because I lined the ID of the large ring with cardstock to make it smooth.
