I just saw a post by Chris Michielssen and it reminded me to go take another look at his excellent web site:

His site is more like a book than a typical web site. It describes techniques for all phases of building of a model rocket as well as ways to craft low-cost rockets from house-hold items.

And, it does more than cover basic construction techniques. It tells you how to build really good looking rockets with straight fins, perfect fillets, and a smooth paint job.
