Sale’s over. It’s safe to go back to the Estes site again.

In the big sale toward the end of last year, I got, among other things, a Mega Mosquito. I picked up some Kevlar thread and elastic cord recently and am asking you folks if I should modify the engine mount to use the Kevlar thread/elastic in place of the standard issue Estes issue shock cord. I can believe that the Kevlar/elastic is more durable than the rubber shock cord but I can also believe that the Kevlar cord can easily cut through the body tube (zippering?) if things go just right (well, wrong....). So which is the lesser evil, risk of shock cord failure or zippering of the body tube?
Thanks!

No need to choose the lesser of two evils if you can use both! My preference is to run a Kevlar leader from the motor mount (when possible, I use Chris Michielsen's removable Kevlar technique) to just behind the front end of the rocket, where it's tied to a good long piece of braided elastic. So the Kevlar never crosses the front edge, and moreover due to the elastic the shock cord never has as much tension on it as an all-Kevlar one would, and that pretty much rules out zippering.
Another technique, if you prefer all-Kevlar, is to just put some tape or something on the Kevlar at the point where it crosses the front edge.
